Everyday information
Hard at work in the library.
Our warm, busy library is open every school day.
As from Term 3 2013, the librarian will be in the library during the following hours.
Monday 12pm -3pm
Tuesday 8.30am-1.30pm
Wednesday 8.30am-1.30pm
Thursday 8.30am-3pm
Friday 8.30am-3pm
Outside of these hours, children should only come to the library during their class visit or when a teacher is on duty, e.g. morning tea
Children can get 3 books out for two weeks and renew books if they need them for longer. Most classes visit once a week with their class - see the timetable below. Some classes just come when their class time allows. A list of overdue books goes to every class on Tuesday. Very overdue books are followed up by an individual letter for home.
Senior pupils who are reading at an advanced rate can ask to take 5 books out at a time. They must keep an eye on their overdue items for this privilige.
Parent Help
Parents are welcome in the library to browse with their children before and after school. We are always on hand to help if you have a query. If you have time to help out in the library with some of our background work then please come and talk to us to see what is involved. We are most grateful for the help as it allows us more time to 'book talk' with the children.
Pupil Librarians
We have a lovely team of 48 children from Year 6 helping us this year. Their enthusiasm and willingness to work in the library is fantastic. They will be responsible for issuing, returning, shelving and keeping the library tidy and organised.
Reserves and recommendations
You can reserve a book - just write your name in the green 'Reserves' book on the library issues desk and the next time it is returned it will be put aside and you will get a note from us.
If you have a great book to recommend, there is another green book beside the Reserves one - just pop your name and your suggestion in that one. If we don't have the book and it is suitable for our library, we will look for it on our next shopping trip.
Hot books
Our favourite part of our job is recommending books to our young readers. We read as many as we can so that we know what to recommend and to pass on this knowledge we have made Reading Lists. You can access them on any school computer through Safari - just type library into the search panel and you'll see our library page. Look for 'Reading Lists' in the list below 'Fast Find'. If you are reading this in school, click the green button below to take you straight to the library page.
